Homer Gere is stepping into the spotlight with his first major starring role in “The Shards,” but he is not entering the project without guidance. The actor revealed that his father, Hollywood star Richard Gere, shared valuable advice before he took on the role.
The younger Gere explained how those lessons helped him understand the importance of professionalism and confidence while working on a demanding production.
During an appearance on “Good Morning America,” Homer Gere talked about the guidance he received from his father before filming “The Shards.” He said Richard Gere focused less on acting techniques and more on how to handle life on a film set.
“Most of the advice I got from my dad was how to carry yourself on set and how to make the job kind of work for you,” Homer shared.
Richard Gere, known for films including “Pretty Woman,” “An Officer and a Gentleman,” “Chicago,” and “American Gigolo,” has spent decades in the entertainment industry. His experience gave Homer insight into the importance of preparation, attitude, and building strong relationships during production.
Gere Takes on a Dark Teen Drama

“The Shards” is based on Bret Easton Ellis’ 2021 novel of the same name. Ellis, who also wrote “Less Than Zero,” “Rules of Attraction,” and “American Psycho,” created a fictionalized story inspired by his final year of high school.
In the series, Homer plays Robert Mallory, a mysterious student who joins an elite Los Angeles prep school. His arrival comes during a frightening period when a serial killer creates fear among teenagers, including a privileged group that becomes connected to the mystery.
Before landing his role in “The Shards,” Homer appeared in the third season of “Euphoria” as celebrity Dylan Reid. His character became connected to Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie Howard in a storyline that attracted major attention.
Homer described the production as having two very different sides. Since the series takes place in the 1980s, the atmosphere combines teenage experiences with darker thriller elements.
“It’s like two different shows being filmed at the same time,” he said. “We’re kind of like having the fun high school party things, and, on the flip side, is like real, Ryan Murphy American Horror Story-type things.”
The series also features actors including Kaia Gerber, Igby Rigney, Graham Campbell, Hayes Warner, Evan Rachel Wood, and Wes Bentley.
Kaia Gerber Praises Her Costar

Kaia Gerber, whose mother Cindy Crawford was married to Richard Gere from 1991 to 1995, also spoke positively about working with Homer. She said she was excited to meet him and quickly developed a close friendship during filming.
“I was honestly so excited to meet Homer,” Gerber said. “We had never met. We had some mutual friends and so I heard really lovely things about him.”
The casting of celebrity children has become a familiar feature in Ryan Murphy’s projects, and “The Shards” continues that trend with Homer Gere joining the ensemble.
Homer Gere’s role in “The Shards” marks an important moment in his acting career. With advice from Richard Gere and support from a talented cast, he is taking on a challenging character in a series that blends teenage drama, mystery, and suspense.
The project also reflects Bret Easton Ellis’ long connection with Richard Gere, including naming the main character Julian in “Less Than Zero” after Gere’s character from “American Gigolo.”
